ISRO Chairman Says India Must Have Its Own Space Station

On June 22, 2019, ISRO ordered scientists to use PSLV so that they can find a way to anchor an arm at its spacecraft. PSLV’s fourth stage can effectively be used for space experimentations. If India builds its own space station, then it would be the fourth nation to do so after Russia, America and China.

Recently, Indian scientists have started focusing on several space missions viz. test for anti-satellite missiles and construction of space station till 2030. Due to space technology, people will get effective communication system, national security, land, crops and disaster management.

At present, International Space Station revolves at the lower orbit of the earth, in ISS astronauts basically conduct experiments in several fields viz. Biology, Physics, astronomy, human biology etc. The total weight of ISS is around 360-tonne and it is revolving around the earth at a height of 400 kilometers from its surface. In ISS, astronauts of several nations participate viz. NASA, Canada, Japan, Europe and Russia.

In contrast to ISS, the Indian Space Station would weigh around 15 to 20 tons, the space station will conduct experiments on microgravity and can only accommodate small amount of people. After ISRO will be able to send people in outer space, it will continue to experiment how humans may survive in space.

Ajay Lele said that though it is a big task for ISRO to build space station in the next 5 to 7 years but it has already started to work on docking technology which will give an opportunity to complete the project in time.

While giving an interview Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan said that India has become a part of Asian space race and now it is very essential for the country to excel in this area. She also said that ISRO should work in collaboration with the US so that it can learn various things from it.
